2021 is slowly but surely coming to its end, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude. Thank you for your support and the invaluable feedback over the past months. It is now also time to recap the year and make plans for the future.
So what happened?
After having completed most of the administrative activities, I launched my first commercial audio plug-in in June 2021. Patreon, although not primarily being a platform for software distribution, turned out to be the right choice for my business. I really like it because it offers a simple paywall for arbitrary digital content and allows for recurring payments from supporters – in exchange for a valid download link, but also on a voluntary basis.
In the subsequent months, I concentrated on the further development of Wave Observer (Pro) and regularly added new features. More and more users decided to go pro and I consider this a great success. At the time of writing, there are 17 paying Patrons, which is not bad for a part-time job I would say!
So what’s next?
I will definitely continue extending the capabilities of Wave Observer in the coming year. There are many useful features in my backlog like sidechain input or auto-zoom, which I would love to release as soon as possible. However, in order to make this a profitable (part-time) business I would like to attract much more customers and this will not be possible without diversification (and marketing, which I have completely disregarded so far…). Time-domain audio analysis is quite a niche after all.
My plan is therefore to release a second plug-in in a few months from now. I will not tell you what it will be exactly, but it will share the wave drawing engine of Wave Observer and it “might” have something to do with dynamics processing…
