Hey observers,
While working on a new version of Wave Breaker, I wondered if I could finally drop VST2 support. VST2.4 is an old technology that is no longer available for newcomers to the market because Steinberg, the license holder of this technology, does not sign new license agreements for the use of the VST2.4 SDK (they don’t do that anymore, by the way, since 2018).
There are maintenance costs associated with VST2 support. I have to test an additional plug-in format in different DAWs. Some features behave differently, others are very hard to implement compared to e.g. VST3 or AU.
So what’s your opinion? Would you mind if I just dropped the old format?
